Blanket+ Sunday

cws-blanketslogoThrough a special offering in November, MPC provides financial support to Church World Service. Church World Service uses Blanket+ funds to assist victims of disasters through out the world as well as here in the United States.  Shelter, food, and clean water are provided to take care of immediate needs, while tools, seeds and small loans are used to secure a future for the struggling community.  In addition to the special offering on "Blanket+ Sunday", Manassas Presbyterian Church supports a number of other Church World Service projects and programs.

Christmas Joy Offering
09poster
A Presbyterian tradition for almost seventy years, the Christmas Joy Offering is one of the four special offerings designated by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to provide congregations direct ways of supporting specific causes that help those in need. Fifty percent of the receipts to the Christmas Joy Offering go to support retired and active church workers and their spouses and families. The other fifty percent supports Presbyterian-related racial ethnic education.

Fair Trade
Fair Trade- Fairly-traded coffee, tea, and chocolate from Equal Exchange are available during our Advent Market which occurs for the four Sundays of Advent. Our purchases support small family operations and environmentally responsible farming.  Fairly-traded crafts from A Greater Gift (SERRV Internationatal) are also available at our Advent Market in early December.  Our purchases allow the artisans to receive a stable yearly income.

Good News Jail Ministry
good news jailManassas Presbyterian Church provides funds to the Good News Jail Ministry at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center. Through this program, chaplains meet the spiritual needs of both inmates and staff through ministry that includes evangelism, discipleship, and pastoral attention.

Loving Hands Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Loving Hands Prayer Shawl Ministry is a group of approximately 25 members and friends of MPC who gather on Thursdays to create knitted or crocheted shawls as gifts to those who have suffered a loss, are struggling with health or other issues, or are celebrating such events as marriages and baptisms. One of the members also creates hand woven shawls.

Meeting times are weekly on Thursdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in Room 40 of the church and the first Thursday of each month from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. in the coffee shop area of Barnes & Noble.

One Great Hour of Sharing
oghslogocolorFor almost fifty years, Presbyterians have joined with Christians throughout the nation in supporting One Great Hour of Sharing, responding to Christ's love for all people by joyfully sharing that love with people in need. The refugee and the stranger have found food and safe shelter; those stunned by the aftermath of disasters have found relief and help rebuilding; and communities seeking to take control of their future have found partners in development. Presbyterians' gifts support the work of The Presbyterian Committee for the Self-Development of People, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, and the Presbyterian Hunger Program. The hundreds of millions of dollars Presbyterians have given over the last half century have enabled a powerful witness to the love of the One who came that all might have life more abundantly.

Peacemaking Offering
peacemakingposter2010Peacemaking Christians are called as Christ's people to be God's peacemakers as agents of reconciliation in families, individual lives, communities, churches, the international arena, and the whole of creation. Peacemaking is the human response to the divine gift of peace giving. The Peacemaking Offering supports the peacemaking efforts of the church at every governing body level, and provides an opportunity to witness to God's gift of peace in the world.  In order to help the whole church respond to God's peace giving in the world, 25 percent of the Peacemaking Offering is retained by congregations for their support of their own peacemaking ministry; 25 percent is used to support presbytery and synod peacemaking efforts; 50 percent is forwarded to the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program of the General Assembly, so that it can continue to provide assistance and resources for congregations and other bodies of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
